As time goes on, poverty is becoming a worldwide crisis. Therefore, to build a sustainable future, there must be some sort of solutions to wipe out this poverty. Mr Yunus have been dedicating his life for this purpose since 1976. But what is poverty? It's basically is the lack of money among people who are in the lowest class of the society. They are the beggars, the homeless people, and those who can't earn enough to support their lives. For the past 30 years, Mr. Yunus' loan program has chosen them as its customers. Grameen bank dared accept the risk of losing money, offering the poorest people microcredit to start small businesses. The loans started up as little as 12 dollars. Thank for this idea, many beggars has no longer begged form house to house any more. This program gives the poor a way to turn to which eventually can help them out. Also, it has created a social change and proved that the poors are bankable. Since the poor would be no longer poor, poverty gradually will be eradicated. This has become a model of anti-poverty strategy in the world. As soon as the poverty are controlled in countries, that's the begin of a sustainable future of the world

Nobody wants to become poor, it’s just simple that they don’t have a good fortune. Poor people have nothing. They don’t have as many opportunities as the others and that’s the reason for why they remain poor. The lack of money is a big matter for them to start doing anything. If they have a bit of money to use as capital, they are as capable as the others. The loan program of Mr. Yunus gives them exactly what they need. With the money lent, the poors can start their own business and earn enough money to support themselves. They will no longer need to depend on anyone. This is a big change in their lives

Nghi, you highlight a good point: the poor of the world need opportunities to improve their life situation. They need ways to be self-sustaining members of the community. Successful small business create this "sustainability" within their own communities. Think of how plain Dorchester would be without the many restaurants and corner stores on every street. Those business don't just make money for the owners. They provide jobs and positive growth for the community.

This loan program is taking a simple approach to "Building a Sustainable Future" but with amazing results. Mr.Yunis's bank have been giving out small loans to the ones most in need, the poor community. The poor need this money so that they can make more money to pay back the loan and create an income for themselves. By helping people to help themselves, yunis has created an easy way for the poor community to get on their feet. These loans were very small, some even as low as 12 dollars but the outcome of these loans is creating a stable financial environment for regular working class people. He is also giving people loans that didn’t have the right to get them in the past. For example he gives loans to women who are supposed to rely on a man which is normal because of the high Muslim population. These loans are also creating more jobs because of the small business's being opened that need workers. So this is also strengthening the economy of the country. When the poor are helped to make money, it makes it easier to create a sustainable future.

Hopefully the loan will have long term benefits for the lendee. It is the goal of the lender's program to allow the lendee to gain purchasing power to obtain goods that will enable him/her to start a small business.Without this initial loan it would be impossible for the poorest of people to initiate the process, with successs, the lendee will gain personal confidence, a level of monetary independence for themselves and (family).
If the small business grows the individual could borrow more using his own credit, pay back the initial loan and make goods/services available that are in demand in the community and possibly hire people to help his/her business grow. The "poor" person who originally aquired the loan becomes a contributing, idependent memeber of the community- where service / goods are constantly exchanged.

Nghi Duong said...

Maria! I agree with you that poor people, every people indeed, cannot make up anything with their bare hands. This loan program plays the role as a lighter in the process of making a fire. And as their businesses keep developing, they are not only making profits for themselves but also, they are contributing to make a sustainable society. So, with a bit of money giving out in the beginning, eventually everyone will end up earning profits. Apparently, this is a very practical and efficient program.

EVERYONE WANTS TO HAVE MONEY IN THEIR POCKETS. WE ALL WANT THE FINEST THINGS LIFE CAN OFFER. WE WANT NICE CLOTHES, SHOES, FOOD TO EAT, A NICE HOUSE, A NICE CAR. YET LIVING IN POVERTY YOU SEE NONE OF THIS. MR. YUNUS AND THE GRAMEEN BANK HAS COME TOGETHER TO HELP THE ONES STRUGGLING AND BEGGING FOR A PIECE OF WHAT MANY OF HAVE. OFFERING EVERYONE A MICROCREDIT TO HELP THEM OFF THEIR FEET IS A GREAT WAY TO START UP A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE, ESPECIALLY WHEN THEY ARE RISKING LOSING MONEY. ONCE THEY HAVE BEGAN THEIR OWN SMALL BUISSNESS THEY CAN REPAY THEIR LOAN AND WILL BE PROFICIENT ENOUGH TO BE ON THEIR OWN. POVERTY WILL NOW BECOME THE PAST TO THEM. OPPURTUNITIES AND HAPPINESS WILL BECOME THEIR FUTURE. RELYING ON OTHERS SHOULDN'T EVER BE ANOTHER OPTION FOR THEM.THIS WILL BE A GREAT TRANSFORMATION FOR EVERYONE.

-Not only in third world countries are the rurally poor citizens taken advantage of by their own politics, but in almost every country do these people go unattended. This program is helping millions of unestablished people make a life for themselves-of good food, nice clothes, and just a genuinely good life. Mr. Yunus' Program has helped to settle the poverty situation its making it so that the "beggars" of today are the middle class workers of tomorrow. This program is not only creating more opertuneties for the poor but it is helping the unrecognized, powerless women of the world have a say in how the money is used in their surroundings. Though small, the money that comes from Mr. Yunus' successful program is shaping the lives of many unfortunate people. In regards to eliminating poverty from economies across the world that seems like an almost impossible goal, but the Grameen bank has helped bring us closer to our means of a more sustainable future.
In life we all need something to motivate us whether it is a speech or a commercial about third world children starving; That is what the loan program does for many of the people that investing their money into all these unfortunet people, it lets them experience how fulfilling it is to be able to change someone's life just by giving that person some support. The sense of being apart of something monumental and life changing makes these lenders want to be more involved in this program. Being a factor in this loan program changes the views and perspectives of the Lenders which causes them to change their lifestyle and who they affiliate themselves with, this essentially is what changes an individual or more importantly an individual who is not obligated to care.

Paul, I think you were right by saying that this program was to help people below the poverty line "get on their feet", but the micro credits this program gives out to hundreds of underprivileged people is not only so they can pay the money back later, it is with the good intentions that these people will make a life for themselves and their families. It is more then just getting their money back with interest like a bank would.

Hey ms.Hall.I believe that the current Market in India isnt developed enough for small business's that these people are trying to make. They dont have enough money to buy the goods and people who jack uyp the prices just to make a profit wont do them any good either. What if their business doesnt work b/c of this and they have a negative cash flow? They would be in an even worse position than when they started. If you really wanted to help them you would put money into developing the market and bringing hundreds of thousands of people out of poverty.Ensure a proper meal, a good house and a nice productive job to every person and just watch that country skyrocket in value.

Mr Yunus has been helping the people that need money the most and that is the poor people. Poor people don't have all the oportunities that we the average people have because they cannot do anything about because they are poor and with Mr. Yunus giving money shows how easy he wants to help them. Nobody wants to be poor anywa because everybody wakes up in the morning and wants to do something with there lifes and being poor is something they don't want to do.

This loan program is working to build a sustainable future through the help it is providing. It is providing help for those that are less fortunate, and therefore, permanently changing the lives of the lendees. Ways of causing this permanent change would be due to the fact that Yunus is helping those that suffer financially.

VICTOR HAS A VERY GOOD POINT AND I COMPLETELY AGREE WITH HIM. IN ALL THIRD WORLD COUNTRIES THEY ARE ALL TAKING ADVANTAGE OF AND ARE TREATED DIFFERENTLY AMONGST EVERYONE ELSE. THIS IS WHY WE NEED SOMETHING ANYTHING TO TRY AND MAKE A DIFFERENCE. IF THIS PRGRAM CAN MAKE A DIFFERNCE FOR MANY WOMEN, MEN AND CHILDREN THEN IT SURE CAN GIVE IDEAS TO OTHER COUNTRIES. THEY NEED THE BEST WAY POSSIBLE TO MAKE A CHANGE AND THIS PROGRAM IS A GREAT START.

I think that Mr. Yunus is doing the right thing by giving "the beggers" money, resonbeing that begger could probably be someone trying to regain him or herself and need money to go back to school.

Miranda, was right when she talked about how this microcredit could help people for life. These loans are helping people sutain a liveable future for life. Though most people that recieved the loan had an successful future, im sure not all lendees became successful with the loan. .Just like in America not all people will spend the money the right way. It is true that the peole that are succesful will never have to rely on another person again.

I think Mr.Yunus giving out microcredit to needy people is the right thing to do. Poverty surrounds the world and the poor just get poorer. With the microsredit it might make the world a little easier to live in. People like Mr.Yunus are trying to secure a better future for people who will eventually run the world. This is an antipoverty plan has a good enough stratagy to help the children of the world out.

I think Mr. Yunus is a brave individual. Personally I wouldn't have done because there is too much risk involved. I respect the fact that he has decided to give out money to the people with none. He desereves the nobel peace prize even though he didnt do anything that has to do with world peace.

Unlike other banks, Grameen Bank of Mr Yunus dared gave the poorest people loans, those that are believed to be non-proftable. And thank for his idea, thousands of poor people have stepped out of the dark. They no longer have to depend on other people to making a living. they now have a business of thier own and can earn money enough to support themselves. This idea is getting Bangladesh rid of poverty and building a sustainable future for the country.

WIth loans, one can invest eventually making profit. With little as 10-12 dollars, one can turn it into maybe, 100 dollars with a profit of about 90 dollars. Many poor people don't get loans because of low credit scores and low income... with it already being set that they probably can't pay the money back. With a little loan... one can develop and earn more money becoming more successful.

In order to get by in life you must have the money to get your foot in the door and begin to build your dreams. So that is why a loan is benefical to those in need of a finacial push, Whether it be for the beginning of a small business or just to pay off a car note. A loan can get you far in life and also help build your credit and get you established. So when families with low income are eligable for loans it is very useful for them in order to get out of poverty and get back on their feet. I believe that loans are great as long as you are able to invest your money the right way, pay the loan back and still make a large profit.

The world is not perfect, theres rich, middle class and poor. Rich were not born rich, poor were not born poor, it all depends on what kind of education you have or had. However now Mr.yunus and the Grameen bank is trying to change the situation of those with no money, homeless people ect. He has loans for people who need money to send their kids to college, buy food, clothes and they their bills.

I agree with amor because what Mr. Yunes did is brave because he helped the poor people out by giving them money and took a chance on how to do it. He was giving money to them because they never had any opportunities and was trying to help

The loan program is working to "build a sustainable future" by helping other people that are not that fortunate of achieving their life goals . The loan program is basically like guidance, not only helping people achieve a dream, but also teaching people a lesson of a good dead to help other unfortunate people with a helpful loan. This program can also alter the lives of the lendees by showing them lending a helpful had can and will be helpful to not only others , but theirselves...

From reading this article from the New York Times it can be plainly said that Muhammed Yunus and his bank has helped many people out over the 30 years it has been running. he has given tiny loans to poor people so that they could survive and has spent millions of his own dollars to help out people around the world like no other bank owner has ever done.

Poverty is a fast growing issue in the United States and from seeing what Yunus has done shows me what an amazing man he truly is. this man is assisting less fortumnate people and is changing their lives dramatically in many ways. he is deserving of the Nobel Prize because of the work he is doing for people that have nothing in life. beggars didnt have to stay up 24 hours to get spare change. even the littlest donation by Yunus gave them a way better life than they had before Yunus. he is helping at a good time as well, when the ecnomy is slow and poor people have it even harder than in earlier years. Yunus said, "if you can make so many people happy with such a small amount of money, why shouldnt you do more of it? " this statement makes sense in this case because a little amount of money can feed a hungry man who hasnt eaten in weeks. he has done a great thung that no one will ever match in the way that he has done.

HAVING A LOAN IS ESSENTIAL TO LEVEL UP YOUR ECONOMIC STATUS.MR. YUNUS IS A GOOD PERSON FOR HELPING OUT THE POOR PEOPLE BY GIVING THEM LOANS.HE IS ALSO GENEROUS BECAUSE HE KEEPS CONTINUING IT.IF MANY PEOPLE TAKE THIS OPPURTUNITY, A LOT OF THEM WILL NOT BE SO POOR.

In my eyes there is not anyone or anything worth calling poverty. Poverty is just a word used to makee it sound less negative. Everyone has a chance at what they want in life. i honnestly believe that theses loans are only good for those who tried hard but was not able to succeed. An example that may illustrte this is how in school we are not rewarded when we fail, it is those who put in the work that may get rewarded. Maybe if the loans are giving at the beginning of the start of being "a grown-up". This world is mostly a monopoly and giving everyone an equal share after failure to me is not a good idea. It is survival of the fittest.

ochocinco85 said...

for most of the class that may agree with this idea as sonia, victor, jackie, etc. just imagine that you are one that may be the one that fought your whole life to be on top and someone that may have slacked off and put themselves into negative positions are able to come up and get another start.
